Kanye West's Gorgeous

My favorite poem at the moment is a song, "Gorgeous" by Kanye West.

Although he is coined one of the best artists of our generation, I never really got into West's discography because of personal disagreements with some statement's he's made. However, I have always believed that he is a free thinker and someone who's unrestrained by society.

When I randomly found this song and looked into its lyrics, I was reminded of this once again.

"Get caught with 30 rocks, the cop look like Alec Baldwin,"
"Face it, Jerome get more time than Brandon"
Kanye uses his platform to address discrepancies in the US prison system, and the lyricism is just...

"This week has been a bad massage, I need a happy ending / And a new beginning and a new fitted / And some job opportunities that's lucrative / This is the real world, homie, school finished"
This really spoke to me, as we are all in an era in our lives as high school juniors and seniors, where we're creating our own paths for the first time in our lives; this is a crucial and defining time in our lives. Albeit this is very daunting to think about, the lyrics made it so that I couldn't stop thinking about those who have obstacles stacked against them from the start.

This song is a current favorite of mine because of both its lyrical and musical composition, and because it radically changed the way I think about one of the most renowned artists of our epoch.
